Chris Korst

Chris Korst is an RTO Legend and longtime executive at Rent-A-Center, where he served as both General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Operations. He played a pivotal role in transforming the rent-to-own industry from an unregulated "wild west" marketplace into a transparent, consumer-friendly model operating under clear legal frameworks. Working alongside APRO and using the Council of State Governments' Suggested State Legislation as a blueprint, Chris helped drive RTO-specific legislation from just four states to roughly 45 by the late 1990s. His strategy centered on balanced model legislation that protected consumers' right to terminate and return — an approach that proved both durable and persuasive. Recognized as an RTO Legend, Chris remains one of the industry's most consequential legal and regulatory architects.
